Common Email Problems

POP3/IMAP Email Problems for PC

If you use a program on your PC to download your email (called an email client), and your email service is provided by your internet provider (for example BT, Virgin, Talk-Talk etc) or if you use a 3rd party service (for example Hotmail or Gmail) with a mail client, then the chances are you are using POP3 or IMAP to get your mail. The following may apply to you.

If you find you are not getting all your emails, then perhaps some might be intercepted as spam by the provider, and you are not seeing it in your email client. Or perhaps a corrupt message is preventing you downloading any email at all. If this is the case, you should try logging on to your email account using webmail. To find out how to do this, you might need to look at your provider’s website – or contact Tabard IT and we can help you find out.

For example:

– for BT go to www.bt.com

– for Virgin email, go to mail.virginmedia.com

Once you find out, log on to the webmail site, and check your spam folder and spam settings to see if you are missing some important messages. And if a corrupt message is preventing you downloading any emails to your mail client, you should be able to delete it/them from here.
